Albertville airport is located 10 kilometres from Albertville in the township of Tournon.
At 2,484 meters, the Grand Arc chain towers over the Albertville airport. The Bauges chain flanks the west end of the airfield, while the Beaufortin lies towards the North and la combe de Savoie towards the south. The peak of Belle Etoile is also close at hand.
The airport has two runways: runway 05 and the main runway 23. The runway names indicate the direction of the runways in aeronautical terms. For those with some knowledge of aviation, you must add a 0 at the end of each number and read them as magnetic degrees. So planes can land or take-off from runway 05 on a 50 (north east) bearing which takes you towards Albertville. Whereas from runway 23, they can land or take-off on a 230 (south west) bearing towards la combe de Savoie.
In 90% of the cases, the wind forces planes to take-off from runway 23.
